CJ Thoroughbreds enjoyed a memorable day at Wyoming Downs, capturing three stakes victories and showcasing the strength of its Wyoming-bred program with standout performances from both its established runners and rising young talent.
The afternoon was highlighted by a dominant one-two finish in the $39,500 HR307 Thoroughbred Derby, while earlier stakes victories by Jimmy Jams and Sevy's Lady in the two divisions of the 207HR Thoroughbred Futurity helped set the stage for a remarkable day at the track.
"I am so proud of our horses, and the human team that supports them," said CJ Thoroughbreds President Corey Johnsen. "It is tough to win a race at any track, so winning three stakes in a day is very special." "It is great to be part of the resurgence of horse racing and breeding in Wyoming. We believe there is tremendous potential in a state which features a deep appreciation of horses. We are committed to the Wyoming-bred program, with stallion Dennis' Moment, mares, foals and race horses."
Two Steves Leads CJ Thoroughbreds Exacta in HR307 Thoroughbred Derby
CJ Thoroughbreds put an exclamation point on a remarkable day at Wyoming Downs when Two Steves and Bobby Chancelot delivered a commanding one-two finish in the $39,500 HR307 Thoroughbred Derby for Wyoming-bred three-year-olds.
Two Steves broke sharply and immediately established the lead, while Bobby Chancelot tracked closely behind. Entering the stretch, Two Steves steadily pulled away from the field to score a decisive 13½-length victory. Bobby Chancelot completed the CJ Thoroughbreds exacta, finishing 10 lengths clear of the third-place runner.
The pair accounted for $27,650 of the purse and provided a rewarding return for trainer Dru Hall, who successfully guided both horses back to the races after extended layoffs.
Two Steves covered the six-furlong distance in 1:12.33 under jockey Cerapio Figueroa.
Bobby Chancelot's runner-up effort was particularly encouraging after overcoming significant setbacks. The colt had not raced since July.
"Dru commented that Bobby got worked up in the saddling paddock and used quite a bit of his energy before the race," Johnsen said. "He'll continue to gain experience and should improve in his next start."
Jimmy Jams Impresses in Career Debut
Earlier on the card, Jimmy Jams delivered an impressive performance in his career debut, capturing the first division of the 207HR Thoroughbred Futurity for accredited Wyoming-bred two-year-olds.
The victory gave CJ Thoroughbreds its first stakes win of the afternoon and provided an exciting glimpse into the future of the operation's Wyoming-bred program.
Sevy's Lady Continues Winning Day for CJ Thoroughbreds
Sevy's Lady followed with a victory in the second division of the 207HR Thoroughbred Futurity for accredited Wyoming-bred two-year-olds, giving CJ Thoroughbreds a sweep of both Futurity divisions.
From Jimmy Jams' and Sevy's Lady's Futurity triumphs to the commanding Derby exacta by Two Steves and Bobby Chancelot, the day represented the continued growth of CJ Thoroughbreds' investment in Wyoming racing and breeding.
The three stakes victories reflected the success of the horses, trainers, jockeys and support team behind the operation, while reinforcing CJ Thoroughbreds' continued commitment to the future of racing and breeding in Wyoming.
With three stakes victories and a one-two finish in the HR307 Thoroughbred Derby, CJ Thoroughbreds left Wyoming Downs with plenty of momentum and excitement for the remainder of the racing season.
