Uncle Mo filly scores back-to-back graded stakes wins for CJ Thoroughbreds.
CJ Thoroughbreds’ Hang the Moon scored an impressive victory in the Grade 2 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita on October 6. In her second straight Grade 2 win, Hang the Moon came from last and mowed down the field to win by almost two lengths. The 1 ¼ miles turf race featured a $200,000 purse, but just as important it was a Win and You’re In Race for the Breeders’ Cup. So, Hang the Moon will receive an all expenses paid entry into the $2,000,000 Filly and Mare Turf going 1 3/8 miles over the Del Mar grass course. The race will be run at 3:25 (Pacific time) at Del Mar on Nov. 2.
Jockey Kazushi Kimura is going to stick with Hang the Moon for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff Turf, even though he has two other options. One of those is Full Count Felicia, who won the $750,000 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine. The other is a filly who will travel from Japan to Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup.
Hang the Moon improved in the speed figure category in her Rodeo Drive victory. She received a 93 Beyer, which is a significant improvement over the 85 she registered in the Mabee win.
