Tom’s Magic delivered a tremendous performance in Saturday’s Grade 1 Hollywood Derby, finishing second by a narrow neck after a thrilling stretch duel.
Breaking alertly, the three-year-old colt overcame early contact shortly after the start and secured a favorable stalking position entering the first turn. He settled comfortably a few lengths off the early pace before launching his bid approaching the top of the stretch.
Tom’s Magic surged to the lead inside the final furlong and battled gamely to the wire, ultimately finishing just a neck behind the winner, Salamis, in one of the most competitive editions of the race in recent years. It was a strong and encouraging effort at the highest level, further validating his consistency and class throughout the season.

Jockey Antonio Fresu gave the colt a well-timed, confident ride, and the team reported that Tom’s Magic cooled out well on Sunday morning. Discussions are underway with trainer Michael Stidham’s barn to determine the next target on his campaign.
The runner-up finish marks a significant Grade 1 placing for Tom’s Magic and continues a very promising trajectory for the colt.
